Oh So Seedy Beanie - Free Crochet Hat Pattern

Quick and easy and full of texture is the name of the game for this free crochet hat pattern. Uses hdc and sl st combo to get a seedy textured feel.  Enjoy!

Oh So Seedy Beanie

This pattern is written using standard U.S. Crochet terms and assumes basic stitch knowledge. If you have any questions or get stuck, please email me with your questions: ballhanknskein@gmail.com. I’m always here to help!

Skill Level: Beginner

Materials/Notions: Worsted weight yarn. Sample made using Berrocco Vintage. Check sizing chart for yarn amounts. Darning needle.

Hook: I Hook (5.5 mm) or hook needed to obtain gauge.

Stitches and Terms Used:

Blo – back loop only
Sk – skip
Ch – chain
Sl – slip
Hdc – half double crochet
St- stitch
Sc – single crochet

Notes:
1. Don’t forget to skip your join when you turn.
2. To add slouchiness, add 2-4 extra rows to the bottom of the hat before you begin your ribbing.
3. Work ribbing tightly. You may even want to go down a hook size.

Gauge: Gauge is critical to sizing so please do a quick swatch to make sure your hat fits!

  5. This hat has a lovely texture. If you struggle to understand the pattern I found it helpful to write it out with each multiple repeat on a separate line. It's a bit tedious but it helps me follow 1 instruction at a time. This has become one of my favorites!

    1. Hi, I read it as ... start with 2 chains, in 2nd chain from hook do 1 hdc then a sl st and then do this 5 more times, sl st to first hdc of round and you will have 12 stitches.... that worked for me :) Tracy :)

    1. Same problem, what I usually ALWAYS do when patterns (specifically hats) made in the round start with chains, I instead use the magic circle technique. I find its cleaner and the hole pulls together more tightly than with the chain technique. Tons of youtube video tutorials on how to make/use magic circle! :)

  8. Where the instructions say "Remaining Rounds: Repeat Round 8 until hat measures 5 inches. (48)" is that the diameter of the circle, or length of the hat from edge to the top (i.e radius)?
